Journaling prompts: living in line with your values

Each month I host a free 'Journaling for well-being' workshop. It's 30 minutes of support and inspiration for your journaling practice. We focus on two techniques:

1 - Wild writing, a free-style journaling method.

2 - Utilising guided prompts around a particular theme.

The theme for the session was 'living in alignment with your values'.

Your values act as your inner compass, your personal northern star.

Living in alignment with your values creates inner peace and contentment. Knowing what’s important to you helps you make (and feel confident about) decisions, supports your well-being and builds confidence and overall happiness.

When you’re living, and working in alignment with these values, you have a grounded sense of self.

Defining your values and being deliberate about how you fulfil them can give you greater clarity about what you want and don't want.

Values can help identify why you do what you do. They are activities, behaviours, beliefs, qualities or goals that you believe are important. They affect the choices you make and the sense of satisfaction with the outcomes of these choices.

Take a moment to reflect on these journaling prompts to help you lean in closer to your values.

  • Write about a recent ‘highlight’, proud moment or spark of happiness.

  • Identify 5 things (values) that were important to you about that moment.

  • For each, identify how you are demonstrating that value in your life right now?

  • What happens when the value is challenged / neglected?

  • What happens when you're living in total alignment with the value?

  • How does that value help you in life?

  • How does that value hinder you?

  • What simple actions can you take to live more in alignment with these value?

If you’re intrigued and want to further explore your values, try this short quiz here.
